Brief History of Koine Greek Language

It was largely Attic Greek that was adopted as the official language of the Greek empire after the conquests of Alexander the Great, which accounts fo its use in the New Testament. Why learn Greek?

Why is it important to study the Greek language? I ask all of my students why they are studying Greek. I receive a wide range of answers. Some are studying Greek because a foreign language is required for their degree program, and they did not want to study Spanish. Others enrolled in a Greek course because they had to take a biblical language, and they thought that Greek would be easier than Hebrew. Sill others are taking Greek because it was recommended.



Listening to Greek

The best way to get comfortable seeing, speaking, and hearing Greek is to read the Greek New Testament aloud or to hear the Greek New Testament read aloud. Here is a resource that may help you read your Greek New Testament.
